photos, as they are an important part of my description. This was an early 4th Liberty Bowl game, played on Dec. 15, 1962 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
at Philadelphia Stadium. The backing paper that the decal is on measures approximately 6 1/2" x 4 1/2", with the actual decal measuring slightly smaller than that. was produced here in Eugene, Oregon by Potter Mfg. (they made lots of pinbacks and decals back in the day...). The decal depicts the
Oregon State Beavers
mascot,
"Benny Beaver"
....he's shown here as a band member, pounding his drum. Extremely colorful bowl game memorabilia, and a

: the
Oregon State Beavers
defeated the
Villanova Wildcats
on this day, 6-0. O.S.U. Qb
Terry Baker
was named the Liberty Bowl MVP; his stats included a 99-yard touchdown run. Baker claimed the
1962 Heisman Trophy
, and led his team to the victory.
Alex Bell
was head coach for Villanova (Villanova, Pennsylvania), while
Tommy Prothro
lead the Beavers (Corvallis, Oregon). Bad weather made the field frozen and the temperature never rose above 25 degrees, making all efforts at reaching the end zone nearly futile. Villanova had their chances, but a touchdown was called back due to a penalty and had another chance intercepted by the Beaver defense. This was the first bowl win for the Beavers since 1942, and was also the last bowl win until 2001.
