    Description

Rare jam or marmalade jar with attached underplate, known as the "Turn Top." Manufactured by the Manning-Bowman Company,  it appeared in the 1941 catalog as item #336. The catalog ad reads, "Lift top, turn it aside, let it down and lo, the cover is suspended in the air...out of the way, while you scoop up jam with the neat glass ladle."
A great Machine Age design, in chrome and glass. The glass insert is likely made by the Heisey Glass Company, which produced a similar jam jar.
    Signed on the bottom.
Condition:  excellent.  There are a few scratches on the bottom but otherwise this looks remarkably new for a kitchen item that is 80 years old.  The glass ladle mentioned is no longer with the jar.
    All returns cheerfully accepted.
