This is an exceptional oyster plate. The color palette is really beautiful - pale shell pink wells and sea life in browns, teal, gray, lavender, and coral. The shape of the wells is reminiscent of actual shells in palest pink. The edges of the shells near the center well are slightly sculptured. A special feature is the gently scalloped edge punctuated by small notches, with three dimensional patterns by each notch. The artist "Stratton" signed this plate and the signature can be seen in one of the pictures. The oyster plate is nine inches in diameter, and it is in excellent condition - no chips, hairlines, or repairs of any kind. The plate is marked "Haviland France", and it looks as if it had never been used, but was rather a cabinet plate. An oyster plate with the same mold can be seen on page 79 of the reference book ,"Oyster Plates", by Jim and Vivian Karsnitz.
