    Description

Amazing set of 12 Antique salad plates with a large platter by CFH GDM Charles Field Haviland Limoges. This wonderful set appear to be in the family and used to be family heirloom. Each piece features rich gold handpainted border with beautifully hand painted decorations depicting different types of fish, snails and sea plants etc.
The platter measures 23.5” long, plates 8.5” wide.
Each piece is marked with CFH GDM mark (Mark 1 in the Encyclopedia of Limoges 4th edition) used during 1882-1890. There is a writing on each piece with initials AK and year 1888.
Charles Field Haviland/Gerald Duffraisseix and Morel:
Charles Field Haviland left America for Limoges in the early 1850s to work for his uncle David Haviland, founder of Haviland and Company. After a few years Charles established his own porcelain decorating studio. Later he married the granddaughter of Francois Alluaud Sr and in 1876 he took charge of Alluaud porcelain factory one of the oldest Limoges factories.
In 1881 Charles retired from his business and Gerard Dufraisseix and Morel took over the operations.
This remarkable set is in good condition overall. There are three plates with issues, what appears to be a small areas where repair or new application of gilt took place. Perhaps to fix a chip. (One picture shows the largest area of repair and I have additional pictures per request). However no damage is noticed on the underside so probably small chip on the top rim. There is a small flea bite on one of the plates and a chip on the large platter (pictured). Minor scratches and signs of use, however the gilt is nice and with not expensive loss at all, just scratch marks. Handpainted details are in very good condition. It is definitely a wonderful set that deserves to find a new home.
