    Description

This is a lot of 2 antique Haviland France Creamer and Sugar Bowl China. This very old set was believed to be hand-painted on Haviland Blanks by sisters from the Ursuline Sisters of Toledo, OH in the mid to late 1890s.
Haviland & Co. is a manufacturer of Limoges porcelain in Limoges, France, founded by David Haviland of New York, begun in the 1840s by the American Haviland family, importers of porcelain to the US. In the beginning, he purchased whiteware from many Limoges factories and had the pieces decorated in Paris. In 1865, however, Haviland procured his factory and began producing porcelain blanks as well as hiring local decorating staff to complete the process under one roof.
The back-mark "Haviland" over "France" were used from 1894 to 1931. The china blank style used is believed to be Josephine blank#6 from around the same period. Most Haviland patterns made before 1926 were not named.
The Ursuline Sisters of Toledo are consecrated religious women who have been a part of the life of northwest Ohio since 1854.
