Up for auction: a 1973 Buick Electra 225 with 48,285 miles, a 455 Buick V8 and the venerable GM 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. The car is an excellent driver - I've put over 2,500 miles on it over the last two years. Originally sold and driven summers in the the vicinity of Mackinaw City, Michigan, it was brought to Kentucky approximately five years ago.
Very reliable car, starts up regardless of ambient temperature. I believe the choke and/or carburetor would benefit from some adjustment (can be slow to warm up,) but it drives fine as-is. A/C blows warm, but all components are present. Original radio and clock do not work, but horn, all power windows and the aftermarket cruise do. All interior/dash lights are present and working. Speedometer cable is noisy and needs replaced, but the speedometer and odometer work fine. The passenger side exhaust manifold is leaking and is in need of repair. Transmission shifts smoothly as designed. Goes down the Interstate at 70 MPH with no trouble.
Exterior is free of dents but does show the years. I have attempted to present the car as fairly as possible in the photos - as you can see, the driver's side is the best side. The passenger front fender shows signs of corrosion as well as deterioration of a prior rust repair on the fender. I believe both fenders have been professionally reconditioned at some point in the past, but the driver's fender is holding up better. In addition, much of the lacquer paint on the passenger's side rocker has cracked/crazed for some reason. The vinyl top was replaced in early 2019 and presents very well, though there are a couple of spots where rust appears to be active underneath. The passenger-side parking light lens is broken (see photos.) Turn signals, headlights and brake lights all work fine.
The interior is all original. Dash and carpets are in near-mint condition (photos show an apparent imperfection on the passenger dash, but that's a shadow.) All four original floor mats are present and are in good shape. Speaker grilles and simulated wood-grain panels are undamaged; all door panels present very well, though the driver's shows more wear. There is no elbow wear-through on any of them. All seat stitching is present and holding up, there are no holes or wear-through on any seating surface. Power front bench works well. Rear view mirror has fallen off but is included.
The rear package shelf was significantly harmed by past water intrusion; both the windshield and rear window were resealed (and new upper door seals installed) when the vinyl top was replaced. Water intrusion is no longer a significant problem, but in heavy rain there is a leak in the upper driver's side corner of the rear window and in the driver's side upper corner of the windshield; I would address these before replacing the package shelf.
Frame has surface rust but is solid.
Floor pans are in good shape (see photos;) both rear and the driver's show only surface corrosion, but there are small holes in the passenger side that will need to be addressed in the future.
Other improvements over the last two years include: all new tune-up parts, rebuilt Q-Jet carb, all transmission seals, new radiator, new all-steel timing chain, new muffler and new seals for the differential, timing cover and valve covers. New front brakes and calipers were installed last month. Four new Cooper 235/75/R15 whitewall tires were installed this past April, and at that time the wheels were refinished.
I will work with your shipper, or would drive the car to you for a small fee if the distance is reasonable. Clean Kentucky title in-hand.
This car is clean, runs well, shifts well and stops well. I'd love to take it to the next level of improvement, but I have too many projects and need to thin the herd. If you have any questions, please message me. Thank you!
