Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful vintage Art Deco "Diplomat" coffee service by Chase!
Designed in 1933 by Walter von Nessen (a German designer) for Chase Brass & Copper Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, this three piece set is a fantastic example of Art Deco design.
Crafted of gleaming chrome-plated copper with sleek black composite handles, this set features beautiful deep fluting, creating elongated vertical lines around each piece. The coffee pot and sugar bowl have smooth round lids that fit snugly (the coffee pot's is hinged), with a tapering composite black knob for easy access. The coffee pot and open creamer have black composite stick handles, providing ease of use and unique visual interest. The coffee pot and creamer are unmarked; the sugar bowl is stamped "Chase" on the underside (as was common with this set, check out its listing on The Met!).
Set presents well and is in very good vintage condition, with very minor wear and patina commensurate with age. There are a few minor dings and scratches on the chrome, and a small crease under the spout on the coffee pot (hard to photograph and not terribly noticeable unless you are looking for it specifically). Please review all photos.
